After Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2005, my former church, Centreville Presbyterian, formed mission trips to help with the rebuilding. I knew I had to help. Although my home town, Vicksburg, was not directly affected by the hurricane, my family spent so many holidays on the Coast that I felt a connection.
There were two trips in 2006. In April we went to Long Beach, just to the west of Gulfport. In July we visited Gautier in the Pascagoula area.
Two years later I accompanied a group to New Orleans. The last time I was in New Orleans, in 2011, there was still reconstruction going on. At the time I'm getting these pictures online, 2013, I expect there is still much work in progress ... eight years later.
