We travel a lot and people ask: what is your favorite trip? I often answer: our road trip to Cumberland, MD. That brings them up short. It's true, though. We had whizzed past Cumberland for years on our way to skiing in western Maryland. It looked like a pretty town.
One summer we decided to take a week to drive to Cumberland and back with no fixed itinerary. It was delightful!
Quite by chance we ended up following the Potomac River and the C&O Canal, so that became the "theme" of our trip. Join us!
There are a couple of ways to follow us on our trip. I've tried to make the narrative a complete summary, but I've used many links to other web sites to provide additional details and sometimes pictures. You can either stick with the basic narrative or explore the various links. At the time this album was created the links were all valid, but the WWW is in constant flux and that can change. If you encounter broken links, please send us some email.
