My mother's maiden name was Cutrer. She was from Magnolia, Mississippi. There are many Cutrer families in that area of Mississippi and Louisiana. They relocated there from the Orangeburg District of South Carolina. Prior to that the family is said to be of French Hugenot origin. The name was originally Couturier.
